Hello, I am FreeMediaKids!, and we are talking about Team17's Worms again, a franchise that has gone the way of Sonic the Hedgehog in the sense that it has long lost its old glory and yet fans still hope for a game rivaling Worms Armageddon in quality, all leading up to plans to release a Worms-based board game. You know what, given the mediocre games and remotely related spin-offs put out over the years, that idea makes sense, in comparison.
Speaking of mediocre games, we are looking at Worms Battle Islands, a 2010 video game for the Wii about—you guessed it—teams of suicidal worms hellbent on killing each other, blowing up the landscape in the process. The game is reminiscent of Worms 2: Armageddon (Worms Reloaded for Windows) in terms of aesthetics, and, despite all the hyperbolic statements on the back of the case promising greatness, it is only fair in quality, though better than the 3D games, granted. To give it credit, it does come close to the Worms Reloaded experience I remember on my Windows computer many years ago, and with the only other Worms game for the Wii being A Space Oddity, it did give Worms fans something to play on the console notorious for the glut of inferior third-party software. With that in mind, playing it back in the early 2010s (as a preadolescent or teenager), I may be remembering Battle Islands as something better than it really was. To be fair, I remember my parents buying us their first Wii game (second after A Boy and His Blob, which, along with the Wii itself, an ex-friend gifted my family the same year) in 2010 in the form of the abominable M&M's Kart Racing, and it is definitely a lot worse than I remembered it. It should only ever be played while under the influence.
With this upload, I have hit a milestone. It marks the first time in all my years on the Archive (and the first time in my life, although I may have done some back at high school) that I have scanned a publication, rather than pulling a scan from the Web.
